We are incredibly proud to launch our brand new school library! Here at Barwic Parade, we know that reading matters. Reading can not only teach you new and interesting things but can open a doorway to exciting and magical new worlds. You can travel around the globe and make brilliant new friends all from the comfort of your favourite chair.
At Barwic, we not only want children to be able to read as a necessary life skill but to read for pleasure, whatever the book may be. Whether it is laughing out loud at the latest funny story or hovering on the edge of your seat as you read a dramatic cliffhanger, we want children to enjoy the stories they share and to be an active part of our school reading culture.
Current research suggests that there are huge benefits to reading for pleasure; those children who read for pleasure are more likely to have a wider vocabulary, be more accomplished and confident writers, have a greater understanding of the world around them, achieve higher attainment in school and be more likely to develop into adults who also love reading. Reading for pleasure can have a positive impact on children's mental health and wellbeing and research even suggests that it can affect outcomes in later life.
We've stocked our library full of some fantastic authors and can't wait to see what your child loves to read the best. Non-fiction, poetry, stories, graphic novels... we have it all! Whether it's reading by themselves or sharing a story with someone else, we hope you all enjoy our brand new books and step into some exciting new worlds of your own!
How to get started?
Here is a short video from Miss Parkhill with the basics of how to get started using our online library software.
Monday - 3/4LR & 5/6SHLF
Tuesday - 3/4NV & 5/6KP
Wednesday - EYFS & 3/4BKHO
Thursday - 1/2AR & 5/6EP
Friday - 1/2KK & 1/2AE
Books being returned should be handed in to your class teacher and these will be passed on to your librarian during your library slot. Currently only 1 book can be borrowed at a time but children can create their very own wish list of books that they want to read in the future.
Children are encouraged to write their own book reviews once they've finished a book to say what they thought.

Late & lost book charges
Your child will be able to borrow our books for 2 weeks at a time before they need to be brought back in and renewed or returned. It's really important to us that our books are valued and looked after so it's important to note that if a book is lost or damaged, you will be charged for the cost of a replacement book. If books are returned late, there will be a £0.50 charge for every week that the book is late being returned (up to a maximum charge of £2 per book). After 4 weeks, if a book has not been returned then it will be assumed that the book has been lost and you will be charged the cost of the book (less the late fee) so we can replace the book in our library.
