Current learning

Here are some of the topics that year 3 and year 4 will be covering this term:

Year 3

English

In English this term, we will be looking at the story of Wall-E, writing our own science fiction story based on the robots of the future. We will also be writing persuasive texts linked to our history work on the Victorians and studying some poetry.   

Maths

In maths this term, year 3 will begin by learning about money. They will be working to recognise coins and notes, calculate amounts and add and subtract money. We will then move on to learning to tell the time using analogue and digital clocks before finally moving on to work on shape and position and direction.

Science

In science, we will be learning about plants, experimenting with different conditions, observing plants grow, learning about pollination and the functions of different parts of flowering plants. We will then look at forces and magnets.

History

In history, we will be learning about Victorian England. This will focus on transport, the industrial revolution, key achievements during Queen Victoria's reign and Victorian school life. 

Geography

In geography, we will be learning about transport, including local transport links, UK transport and international transport. This will link to our previous work on trade.

Art

In art, we will be studying the work of L.S. Lowry, recreating paintings in his signature style with matchstick men. Look out for some of our finished pieces later in the term!

DT

In DT, children will be working with micro bits. They will be designing and creating their own 'micro pet' which will incorporate computer control through their programming of the micro bit.

PE

In PE, children will be working on athletics, preparing for Sports day. They will also be developing their control and passing skills in rugby, football and netball.

Spanish

In Spanish, children will be continuing to develop their conversational skills, sharing about hobbies, likes and dislikes.

Year 4

English

In maths this term, year 4 will begin by learning decimals, making links to their previous work on fractions. They will then move on to working with time using analogue and digital clocks before finally moving on to work on shape and statistics. They will also be sitting their Multiplication Tables Check during the summer term. 

Science

In science, we will be learning about habitats, exploring animals and plants found in these habitats and also the human impact on them. We will then look at the digestive system and teeth. 

History

In history, we will be learning about Victorian England. This will focus on transport, the industrial revolution, key achievements during Queen Victoria's reign and Victorian school life.
