Expectations

All planners MUST be in school everyday - they are vital for communicating with you, noting when children have read in school and recording homework tasks.

Reading has been proven to improve learning, so we encourage all of our children to read on a daily basis. Please continue to support us in this by listening to your children read at home, as well reading with them and discussing their book.

Uniform:

Please note that children should be wearing completely black shoes to school each day, as per the school uniform policy. Trainers are not permitted. If children are bringing in wellies for the forest, these must be brought in a bag as a change of footwear at lunchtime.

Homework

Homework will be set each Friday and will be due the following Friday. Each week children will have spellings to learn as well as either a reading task, a piece of math work linked to what they have been learning in school or a SPAG activity. Failure to complete homework will result in children missing their play or lunchtime during school in order to complete it.

PE

On PE days, we ask that children come to school in their PE kits. Please ensure that your child has the appropriate kit and footwear. As per the school policy, this includes a white t-shirt, black tracksuit bottoms or sports leggings and trainers or pumps. Football kits, t-shirts and hoodies with logos, normal leggings and any form of crop top are not permitted. Children without PE kit or who are not wearing the appropriate kit will be asked to wear spare kit provided by school. If children wear earrings, they must be able to remove them before the lesson as we cannot cover them up with plasters or surgical tape.

Year 4 multiplication check

One of the most important ways in which you can support your child's learning at home is to help them learn their times tables. This knowledge is vital to all areas of mathematics.

In year 3, they should know their 2s, 5s, 10, 3s, 4s and 8s.

By the end of year 4, children are expected to know all times tables up to 12 x 12. Children should be able to recall these facts with speed. At the end of year 4, during the summer term children will sit a Multiplication Check set by the government to test their times table recall.

It is important that children have practised not only on paper or verbally, but also typing these answers at speed since the test will be online. Maths shed and Maths frame both run simulators of this which children can practice with.

Key websites to support learning at home

These are some of the key learning platforms we use in school and they are a valuable resource to support learning at home. Where needed, children will have their logins in the back of their planners. If your child is without their login, please get in touch with their class teacher.

Spelling Shed - Weekly spellings will be set on here for children to learn.

Maths Shed - A great way to learn your times tables or improve your speed!

Maths Frame - A variety of times tables games to play on the PC, tablet or phone.
