Welcome to Rainbow Class Autumn 2020!
We are delighted to be back and raring to go!
What do we do in Reception?
We have lots and lots of fun and magical learning in a beautiful, enabling environment. We offer a balance of interactive key skills sessions; group interactive activities and dedicated hour long child-led learning through play experiences twice a day. We are all-weathers, indoors and outdoors every day, with our own forest right on the doorstep!
Look below to see what we've been up to already!
Autumn 2
This half term we are "Remembering" special times in our calendar. First we are looking at the annual celebration of Bonfire Night and why we have this tradition, together with exploring fireworks and fire safety. Next, we will be thinking about Remembrance Day, develop a simple understanding of why we buy poppies each year at this time, as well as sympathetically linking this to what is going on around our world today. Finally, we will be celebrating our favourite time of year! We will be thinking about Winter and the magical celebration of Christmas!
As part of our winter celebrations, we have been exploring one of our favourite stories; 'Stick Man' by Julia Donaldson. We went on a special expedition to the forest to collect our own stick friends. Once back inside we created our very own stick characters and discussed them. Have a look at the gorgeous work in the pictures above!
Autumn 1
This half term is all about you and how we keep you safe! Your family, your friends, where you live and what you like to do! We are also looking at People Who Help Us- so we are thinking about the emergency services, teachers, doctors, dentists, vets and shop keepers too. We are always on weather watch, so we will be looking at the beautiful season of Autumn and the changes that happen during this time. At the end of the half term we will be thinking about the tradition of Halloween.
Our favourite books being explored are: Laura's Star (linked with the importance of putting things back where they belong and feeling safe and happy), The Gruffalo (linked with being brave and familiar animals/Autumn) and Room On A Broom (linked with Halloween)!
Autumn Treasure
We explore and celebrate all seasons in Rainbow Class! For Autumn we went on a magical autumnal scavenger hunt, studying how the leaves fall from the trees and change colour. We found such a beautiful variety of leaves that came in beautiful colours; brown, yellow, orange and red. We collected the leaves, took them back to class and decorated them for our room and treasure table!! Autumn is such a wonderful season.
