Reception 2019-2020

Welcome to Reception!smiley

Mrs Jules Ayed

Early Years Leader and Class Teacher – RJA (Rainbows)

Born in Leeds, Mrs Ayed has taught in primary schools in Leeds, York and in Selby over the last 15 years. This is her fourth year at Barwic Parade in Selby. Prior to teaching, she was in the Public Relations Industry. Mrs Ayed has two grown-up daughters and two young grandchildren. She loves languages and can speak French, Spanish and some Arabic, as well as doing accents too! As a child, Mrs Ayed fell in love with Enid Blyton's collection of magical adventures in The Faraway Tree and still loves reading these to her class to this day. If she hadn't been lucky enough to become a Teacher, Mrs Ayed would have loved to be an actress. She hopes to write a story one day! A lover of the moon, stars and rainbows, Mrs Ayed especially loves being outdoors and sharing her love of nature with the children.

Mr Alfie Eke

Class Teacher – RAE (Stars)

Mr Eke started his teaching career at Barwic Parade. This is his second year and he is still loving every second of it. Originally from Grimsby, he moved to York in 2015 to start his teacher training and has lived there ever since with his friends! While at university, Mr Eke worked as a Tour Guide at York's Chocolate Story. He can tell you some really interesting (and some pointless) facts about the origin of chocolate, but loves eating it the most! He loves to spend time catching up with friends and family; going for walks at the seaside and exploring new places. If he wasn't a teacher, he would love to be on the stage in the West End, or another career working with children. Mr Eke describes himself as a big kid himself and loves being silly! (One of the perks of working with young children!)

Mr Ryan Snowdon

Teaching Assistant - RJA (Rainbows)

Mr Snowdon is from North Yorkshire and has worked here for 3 years and in young children's care and education for ten years, also currently in the final year of his degree. He lives with his family and likes to spend most of his spare time with his lovely friends.  Mr Snowdon loves nature so he goes on lots of magical walks especially during the summertime. Growing up, his favourite author and book was Dr Seuss's The Cat In The Hat because it is so full of colour and joy. If Mr Snowdon didn't work in education he thinks he would have become a nurse because he loves to take care of other people.

Mrs Gemma Waring

Teaching Assistant- RAE (Stars)

Mrs Waring lives with her husband and two children in Selby, where she was born.  She even went to Barwic Parade Primary School herself! Before having family, Mrs Waring originally worked in retail but it was always her dream to get into education, in particular to work at Barwic Parade, where she has now been for 3 years. On weekends and holidays, Mrs Waring spends a lot of her time at her caravan at Cayton Bay with family and friends. She loved to read and is currently working through the David Walliams collection with her children. He is fast becoming her favourite author after Roald Dahl! The Warings have two guinea pigs, Rocky and Zuma  and two hamsters, Yoyo and Nibbles, that are very much part of their family!
Mr Peter Crump
PPA Teacher - RJA

Mr Crump lives with his wife and two children in York. He has been teaching for 10 years and it hasn’t stopped his love of teaching! He spends his spare time building Lego with his two boys, making music on his computer and occasionally has been known to DJ a bit.

Before teaching he worked in computing, and is a dab hand with any computer issues. He has also been known to design the odd website. He grew up in Cambridge and has been making his way north since then - York has been his home for the last 12 years - along with stops in Lincoln and Bradford along the way. He loves travelling abroad with his family, especially for the food!

Mr Crump grew up with a love of comics, and has recently been rewatching all the Marvel films in order with his children. He loves the books of Oliver Jeffers and in particular his book “Stuck”.

Mrs Sue Lord

PPA Teacher - RAE

Mrs Lord lives with her husband in York. She has three grown up children and two grandsons, who all keep her very busy, especially with fun days out! She lived all of her childhood in Hedon, Hull, where many of her family still live. She moved to York in 1991 with her husband and children to run a newsagents shop, which they did for over ten years. After selling the business, she became a teaching assistant, which inspired her to train to be a teacher (a lifelong dream)! She has worked at Barwic Parade for over 8 years, where she loves teaching! She loves to travel abroad, especially to Spain, as her daughter, Sophie, lives and teaches there! Apart from travelling, her hobbies are walking, swimming and gardening, and she also loves reading books. As a child, she read lots of Enid Blyton books, but she also enjoys  Michael Murpurgo and Roald Dahl books, especially Matilda!

What do we do in Reception?

We have lots and lots of fun and magical learning in a beautiful enabling environment: a balance of interactive key skills sessions; group interactive activities and dedicated hour long child-led learning through play experiences twice a day.  We are all-weathers, indoors and outdoors every day, with our own wildlife forest right on our doorstep!
Look below to see what we've been up to already!
