Our response to COVID-19

Following the Government's decision to school all schools, Barwic Parade Community Primary School closed on Friday 20th March 2020 until further notice.

Home Learning

Miss Dixon  is keen to ensure that all children can continue to learn at home, so home learning packs were sent home before the school closed.

We appreciate that this situation is really challenging and on some days the best laid plans just won't quite turn out as you had expected. That's fine. We understand. The most important thing is to make sure your child reads every single day.

Class pages on our website are being updated on a regular basis and provides you with many useful links to online learning sites. We are also posting on Facebook any useful learning links, live broadcasts and home learning ideas to help you as much as we can. Feel free to share with us your pictures.

We have given you your child's class teacher's email address. Please contact your child's class teacher for any help or advice about the learning we have issued. All teachers will be checking and responding to their email just once a day so please be patient.

Technology

Barwic Parade Community Primary School has some amazing friends, especially at times like this. Friends from our IT support company, Connect-Up in Leeds, and one of their parnters, Tektube.co.uk based in Beverley, have kindly loaned to us a number of IPad Mini's so our children can access the internet and their online learning.

If your child doesn't have access to a laptop or an IPad, and you'd like to borrow one of these devices, please complete the below request form. There is no charge for having one of these loan IPad Minis but please be aware that if you are loaned one of these devices you are agreeing to pay £70 should the IPad be damaged or lost and you must return the device when asked to do so. If you are unable to return the device you will be expected to pay £70.

Free School Meals

If you qualify for Free School Meals, on economic grounds, you will have received a letter shortly before school closed it's doors. We intend, for as long as possible, to provide your child with a free school meal every school day. This will consist of a grab bag packed lunch (freshly prepared sandwich crisps, piece of fruit & treat), or even a hot school meal to take home.

Simply coming to school at the below times to grab your child's lunch and go. Please remember to adhere to social distancing guidelines and stay 2 metres apart.

EYFS & Key Stage 1 - Collect at 12.30pm

Key Stage 2 - Collect at 12.45pm

We are proud to be working with Mr Roast for the provision of our Free School Meals. This in turn is helping support other businesses in our local community at this difficult time.

Explaining COVID-19 to younger children

Are you struggling to explain why your routines have suddenly had to change and you want to tell your children about what is happening but your not quite sure how to phrase things? Maybe the booklet attached might help?

Safeguarding Children

We have produced an addendum to our normal safeguarding policy to cover arrangements during this school closure due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Communication

During this uncertain period, we will endeavour to use our Text Message service, Marvellous Me and Facebook for communication, so when you get an alert, please read the messages carefully.

Please tell us immediately if you have a new mobile telephone number to ensure that we can keep you informed of any new developments and information.

Reopening of school - Tuesday 2nd June

We have been working hard planing our return to school on Tuesday 2nd June. Please find attached the letter sent to all parents on 22nd May 2020, with 2 important attachments.

Team Barwic is proud to belong

We'd like to thank you all for your continued support. The dedicated team at school hugely appreciates it. Whatever challenges we may face in the next months we will meet these together. Please stay indoors and stay safe.

Best Wishes - Miss Sarah Dixon
